What is a Digital Literacy Licence?
A Digital Literacy Licence – or DLL for short – is a set of micro-credentials obtained by undertaking a series of short courses that equip learners with digital literacy skills. The program has been specially designed for young people between the ages of 15 – 25 and aligns with the Digital Literacy Skills Framework (DLSF) developed by the Australian Government to supplement the Australian Core Skills Framework (ACSF), as well as the Australian Curriculum 9.0 General Capabilities - Digital Literacy.
Digital Literacy Licence Framework
To obtain a Digital Literacy Licence, learners progress through four levels of self-paced, well scaffolded and highly interactive material – with each level preparing them for the next. Upon completion, they will be equipped to face the challenges of a rapidly advancing digital world.

Program Features
-
Story-Telling Approach to Learning
The lessons begin with story-telling, mixed in with some decision-making. Go on a journey with our DLL characters as they learn all about navigating a digital world. We follow this group of friends and family throughout the four levels of the program, learning alongside them.
-
Interactive Content
The program involves the participant in completing activities along the way to reinforce the messages from the characters and stories as well as the subsequent content that is presented. By the time the participant reaches the assessment points, they have already undertaken a range of activities to reinforce the message.
-
Activity Type Indicators
There are consistent markers across the program to highlight the type of activity that is being presented. This may be a video, link to a website, click to reveal, or a drag and drop style activity. It is quick and easy to identify the type of activity by glancing at the top corner of the slide.
-
Content Outlines
Each lesson begins with a Lesson Roadmap that outlines the content that will be covered in the lesson. Each GPS indicator on the map provides additional detail on each topic.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is digital literacy?
Digital literacy refers to the ability to navigate digital environments critically, creatively, meaningfully and effectively.
To be more specific, it entails knowing how to locate information, consume it thoughtfully and evaluate its credibility; collaborate and communicate with impact in online environments; create digital content; and safely manage identity, security and privacy. As technology continues to change and adapt over time, so too will the definition of what it means to be digitally literate.
Why is digital literacy important?
Communication and information are increasingly going digital – so much so that digital literacy has been formally identified as the sixth essential core skill alongside Learning, Reading, Writing, Oral Communication and Numeracy.
Not only does being digitally literate allow an individual to fully participate in society: it also empowers them to expand their learning and life outcomes. Despite this, there has traditionally been a lack of structured programs designed to ensure students develop the targeted foundation skills they require in order to be considered fully digitally literate. This is where the DLL comes in.
What is the Digital Literacy Framework?
The Digital Literacy Skills Framework (DLSF) is a standardised approach to teaching digital skills that sits alongside the Australian Core Skills Framework (ACSF).
Basically, because digital literacy is still a relatively new concept, the Australian government has created a set of guidelines outlining the four levels students and employees need to have competency in so that they can structure their learning, track their progress and identify areas that need work.
What is the Digital Skills Gap?
With the digital world continuing to rapidly transform, new research has revealed a major gap in digital skills across Australia’s workforce. A whopping 87% of jobs now require digital literacy, but data indicates that our current population of students and employees are struggling to navigate this new landscape due to a lack of adequate digital skills.
To close the gap, schools and organisations need to make upskilling their communities the highest priority – future-proofing learners with the digital prowess required to succeed.
The Importance of eSafety
These days, many toddlers can swipe before they can talk – but with increased time spent online comes an increased risk of exposure to harm.
As well as the more obvious content risks, there are conduct risks (such as cyberbullying) and contact risks (for example, having your data harvested). The advent of fake news has created an additional need to be able to critically evaluate online sources, too. Accordingly, eSafety is paramount and is a massive component of a Digital Literacy Licence.
Why DLL is Perfect for Your Organisation!
The team behind the Digital Literacy Licence is comprised of a passionate group of educators, trainers and teachers. With extensive experience in the K-12, Higher Education and Vocational Education and Training spaces – particularly with regard to providing rich learning experiences and understanding the needs of students – we’ve identified first-hand the gaps in digital literacy that need to be filled and the most effective means of doing so.
Our Credentialing Partner
We’ve partnered with QVAULT: Australia’s first online certificate-issuing technology.
As learners progress through their Digital Learning Licence, at each level they will earn a badge and certificate that can be used to bolster their resumes and social media profiles – such as LinkedIn.
These certifications can be made to integrate with your student management system and will be stored forever in one convenient online spot, meaning there’s no need to pay for certificate re-issuance, nor do you need to store printed certificates on file!
