Energy Skills Queensland

Experiencing the Success of the
Digital Literacy Licence

Energy Skills Queensland adopts DLL to skill Queenslanders for work.

Energy Skills Queensland (ESQ) is a leading, independent, not-for-profit organisation, providing innovative solutions to enable a skilled and safe energy industry.

ESQ is a trusted partner of Local, State and Federal governments. ESQ facilitates programs under the Skilling Queenslanders for Work (SQW) funding for the Department of Employment, Small Business and Trainings’ (DESBT) and Local Jobs Programs under the Department of Workplace, Employment Relations. ESQ works alongside the Queensland Government in skilling and enabling an adaptive workforce across industry.

Through skilling programs, industry and government aim to address the growing workforce shortages by equipping all working-aged Queenslanders with skills that meet the current and future needs of the labour market across the state.

Digital Literacy transformation in the energy sector encompasses smart grid technology, data analysis, remote monitoring, the internet of things and cyber security to name a few. These are some of the programs DLL will be supporting ESQ with into the future.

The Digital Literacy Licence (DLL) has been a great inclusion in our skilling programs. As an online microcedential program, this has assisted participants to have the flexibility to complete this section of the program at their own pace. SQW allows us to provide additional support to the participants where necessary. We’re hoping to tailor the individual learning needs as much as possible to obtain the best outcome for the participant, the government investment and industry.

We look forward to introducing DLL into all of our training programs and initiatives to ensure we’re taking everyone on the digital transformation journey with us.
— Donna Isaacs, Skilling & Diversity Manager, ESQ

ESQ identified digital literacy as a concern across the industry. When seeking new employees in to the workforce industry highlighted an applicant’s digital literacy as important.

ESQ engaged Digital Literacy Licence (DLL) to deliver skills in an SQW program to assist in building digital capabilities for unemployed people to enter the workforce.

With the growing renewable energy sector offering Queensland many opportunities, ESQ sees how digital literacy can help to increase productivity and efficiency, leading to economic growth. How it can help to bridge the digital divide and ensure everyone has access to the benefits of digital technologies, regardless of their socio-economic background, and provide innovation, research and development to the sector. All are critical to Queensland's success.

DLL partnered with ESQ to track the results of the pilot program to ensure DLL lived our vision of empowering people to navigate a digital world.
